Gum Arabic is produced by the Acacia Tree and grown in the Savannah / Arid Zones of Nigeria. The type of gum in Nigeria is the Acacia Senegalese variety ,which produces the Grade One gum characterized by a negative optical rotation. A Second variety known as the Acacia Seyel ,which produces the grade two Gum is also found in Nigeria and is characterized by a positive optical rotation.

Gum Arabic is mainly used in the food processing industry as well as the pharmaceutical industry ,as well as preservatives for food and drinks.
